It took me so long to realise this fact. So I’m sharing it here for you to reconsider your path. It is a simple take on what we often reflexively respond to or think about our lives.
I still can’t remember where I got the rest of this post. The credit is not mine. Enjoy & take a message for you into your own life.

“When someone asks, "Who are you?", most of us answer with our career:
"I'm a doctor."
"I'm an engineer."
"I'm in sales."
and there's nothing wrong with that. A career matters. It provides stability, dignity & the ability to earn a living. It deserves respect.
But here's where we go wrong:
We confuse our career with our vocation (calling or purpose)
A career is the work you do to earn a living
A vocation comes from the greek root meaning "to call"
A Vocation is the deeper pull on your life, the work that calls you beyond titles & paychecks
One sustains you, the other summons you.
And when the end comes, it won't be the career titles that matter. Nobody whispers on their deathbed,
"I wish I had closed one more deal."
the regrets are always the same:
"I wish I had stayed true to myself"
"I wish I had given more time to those I love"
"I wish i had lived with more purpose"
So yes, honour your career. Provide. Build. Earn. But don't mistake it for your calling."
Because in the end, your career will reward you with a living.
Your calling will reward you with a life.
